December 2018 Newsletter: 'Tis the Season to Celebrate

END OF YEAR CAMPAIGN: Window Casements

GOAL: $40,000 RAISED: $6,700

In the new year, we will share photos of the Vocational Training Center with external walls added. While our partners at Tumaini Children's Ministry in Nyeri, Kenya are focused on completing this phase of construction, Learn For Life Kenya is looking forward to the next phase of construction, the addition of window casements to the entire building.

Between now and the end of 2018, our goal is to raise $40,000 to add 202 window casements to the entire 29,000 sq. ft building.

The school is a strategic response to crippling unemployment in Kenya. Once open, the VTC will teach skills to young men and women through certified programs such as plumbing, masonry, hairdressing, and tailoring, to name only a few. Those with skills have the ability to support themselves.

Would you please consider making a year-end gift to help young people envision a better future?

Your gift can do more than just provide windows for the Vocational Training Center. For gifts of $350 or more, donors will be invited to send in a favorite quote, word of inspiration or Bible verse (up to 40 words). We will contact you directly to capture your chosen words.

#GivingTuesday 2018: Hairdressing & Barber Skills Training

This year, our #GivingTuesday campaign focused on hairdressing and barber skills training for older youth currently residing at orphanages managed by our partners, Tumaini Children's Ministry. The purpose is to provide them with a means for self-support after they age-out of the orphanages. People equipped with hairdressing and barber skills in Kenya possess marketable trades.

Our Goal: $3500

YOU HELPED US RAISE $3840!

THANK YOU!!!

We plan to launch this program in April 2019. Watch for photos in future newsletters!

Moses wants to tell you how much he's looking forward to learning hairdressing skills. Check out our YouTube channel for more interviews with youth residing at Tumaini Children's Home.

Jont & Mary Beth Tyson

This month, Learn For Life Kenya features our friends, Jont and Mary Beth Tyson. Our recent #GivingTuesday focus on Hairdressing & Barber Skills Training captured this special couple's attention in a way that inspired them to action. Jont and Mary Beth opened the Milwaukee Street Barbershop in June 2014. Not only is Jont a barber and business owner but he has also taught barbering at WCTC, an area technical college in Southeastern Wisconsin.

The Tysons can attest from personal experience to how beneficial skilled trades can be, especially when coupled with an entrepreneurial mindset. That conviction is what compelled them to get involved in our recent fundraising efforts. The Tysons took the initiative to contact several area salons and barbershops, asking their network of friends who own businesses to allow Learn For Life Kenya to promote our #GT Campaign in their shops. Because of the Tysons, many more people heard about Learn For Life Kenya's commitment to alleviate poverty through economic development, a responsible approach that builds dignity and fosters self-sustainability.

Thank you, Jont & Mary Beth Tyson, for your thoughtfulness, generosity and encouragement. We couldn't make such an impact without friends like you!
