April 2018 Newsletter: You Raised the Roof!

Vocational Training Center Update

Vocational Training Center Roof Completed

A couple of years ago Learn for Life Kenya and the Tumaini Children’s Ministry embarked on a “journey of a thousand miles” to build a Vocational Training Center in Nyeri, Kenya.

Last month, we achieved a significant milestone as we witnessed the completion of the roof construction. We are extremely grateful to all of you for joining us on this journey that gives hope to youth in this marginalized community and across Kenya, and provides them with an opportunity to gain valuable skills.

We are now ready to begin the next phase of this journey which involves plastering the external walls of this 29,000 square foot building.

The cost for plastering the walls is estimated at $60,000. The great news is that we have already raised $15,000, which will enable us to get started on this phase. To avoid disruption in the construction, we are seeking to raise $45,000 in the next few months.

Once the external wall construction is complete, work will begin on the staircase banisters, door and window casements, internal plastering, electrical conduits, plumbing and piping, painting, and finishes.

We continue to remain faithful on this journey and count on your support as we strive to complete this surmountable project, step by step.  We would like to invite you to get involved by:

  1. Sharing our construction project with your network and encouraging them to join us
  2. Hosting an in-home or private fundraising event to benefit our project
  3. Donating to our project

Please contact us at info@learnforlifekenya.org if you need more information on how you can get involved.

Tree Planting at the Vocational Training Center

In February, the Nyeri County Government donated 100 avocado trees to the Vocational Training Center to be used to generate income for the Center and help feed the children in the nearby Tumaini and Huruma Children’s homes. Kona ya Marafiki (Friends Corner)

This month we are dedicating our Marafiki (Friends) corner to the children at the Tumaini Children’s Ministry. These young people inspire us everyday as we aspire to build a better future where they can be self-sustaining.
